Everything You Need to Know About Facebook Shops

If you own an online business, here’s some great news: In 2020, more people are shopping online than ever before. In the wake of COVID-19, shifting lifestyles and advances in technology, there’s never been a better time to focus on your online sales.

And although there are hundreds of ways to promote your business or brand online, Facebook has just created one more great option with the introduction of Facebook Shops.

Launched in late May and slowly rolling out to the general public, Facebook Shops brings familiar features from platforms like Shopify, Amazon, and Etsy to the world’s largest social media platform. Shops will give Facebook users the chance to buy from their favorite people and places in a seamless shopping experience, with many more exciting features and options to come.

So how will Facebook Shops work?

Business accounts on Facebook will have the option to use this free feature regardless of page size, and the set up is incredibly user friendly. Boasting a clean interface and design, products can be set up in Collections for easy organization. Once a shop is created, you can manually choose products to feature, or import items from an existing e-commerce site. As a bonus, there is no limit on the number of items that can be added to each shop.

Here at Red Bird Social, we believe branding is one of the most important aspects of your business, and this is one area where Facebook Shops gets it right. Each storefront will be fully customizable, allowing brands to add their signature colors and images to help set their shop apart.

Once your products are live, shoppers can save their favorite products, ask questions directly through Messenger, and purchase when they’re ready with Facebook’s secure checkout. Businesses will also have access to Facebook’s analytics for each product, showing the number of views, clicks, and purchases for everything in their shop. Shops are currently only available for businesses selling physical products and goods.

This summer, Facebook will also introduce Instagram Shops, where users can explore and purchase from their favorite brands, influencers, and creators. Users can also get excited for more features over the next few months, including the option of a live shopping experience through Facebook and Instagram Live, and the addition of loyalty programs for repeat customers.

The platform will deduct a 5% or a flat fee for shipments depending on the amount of each sale. However, this fee is comparable to other online shopping platforms.

The new Facebook Shop feature is a no brainer for marketers and businesses everywhere, providing a new way to respond and purchase directly within online marketing campaigns.
